Psychotherapy
aims to reduce distress through medium and long-term in-depth work.
It is focused on introspective exploration to improve one’s own awareness and to activate durable inner changes. It is set up with weekly or twice weekly sessions and its duration is usually not fixed in advance. Counselling provides short term problem-focussed support. It usually lasts from 4 to 12 sessions generally on a weekly basis. It is designed to improve self confidence and strengthen the decision-making process in overcoming difficulties.
It can help manage transition and change. It is best thought of as an intense and brief engagement that aims to identify personal resources and external help. Consultationhelps cope with a sudden or temporary critical situation, analyse the reasons and suggest possible solutions.
It might represent a first step towards a more extensive programme of professional help. It supports clients to deepen our comprehension about current and future situation, to resolve anxieties, overcome dilemmas and dispel concerns. |
